I was inspired early on by the Dutch masters, the way they used light, color and shadow to add drama in their compositions. It taught me how use realism to convey importance to my subjects. Unlike their work my compositions are simple, sparse and void of all that is unnecessary. A constructed reality that would not normally exist. I focus mostly on a single dominant subject.

I use many transparent layers and strong colors contrasted against neutral tones to highlight objects. I paint my subjects larger than life. The scale magnifies details and offers an alternate view of the mundane things we tend to see everyday but overlook.

Born in New York City Kevork Cholakian earned a Bachelor of fine arts from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. After graduation began working in broadcast television as a graphic designer and later moved to Los Angeles to take a senior design position in that field. Throughout his career he pursued his passion for fine art through his still life paintings. After leaving television in 2010 to pursue his art fulltime Kevork also developed an interest in ceramics. His work focuses on sculpture related to his still life painting. Kevork currently lives and works in LA where his work continues to evolve.
