The play of what is real and what is not is an important part of my work both in painting and clay. I use realism to convey importance and familiarity to my subjects. My compositions are simple, sparse and void of all that is unnecessary; constructed realities which would not normally exist, where imperfect is perfect, imbalance is balance, and disorder is order. I design with that in mind, I am a graphic designer by trade, so design and color play an important role in my process.
I focus mostly on single dominant subjects, everyday objects, where the mundane becomes heroic, projecting details forward, larger than life, seducing the viewer to see things commonly overlooked. Incorporating images into the natural structure of my subjects to look closer at the subtle worlds within worlds, sometimes obvious and sometimes hidden.
